We can work it out (Ce la possiamo fare)

Gioielli in Fermento 2016.

miei gioielli.
Questa spilla è stata realizzata dopo aver ascoltato “We Can Work it Out”
dei Beatles, che rappresenta la possibilità di superare i limiti che ci
circondano.

Freedom: I am synaesthetic, I see sound as shape, colour and movement it
is incredibly beautiful and moving emotionally. I love to listen to music and
“see” the vibrant but ephemeral shapes play in the cosmos.
Constraint: I try to draw and make jewellery from these fleeting images to
share with you but can only catch brief wisps of remembered sound pictures
with my pencil to put in my jewellery. This brooch was made after listening
to The Beatles “We Can Work it Out” which was represents the possibility of
moving beyond the constraints we feel now.

Poppy porter vive e lavora a Guildford, Gran Bretagna.

Poppy Porter is an abstract artist specialising in jewellery and painting based
in Guildford, UK.  She is synaesthetic which means she has a visual response
to sound, particularly music. This normal, but unusual neurological phenomenon
makes a colourful inner landscape of shape, colour and movement on hearing
certain sounds or listening to music.  Poppy then uses this response to make bold
abstract jewellery and paintings that reflect the flow, energy and emotion of the
music that inspires her.
Poppy works with both recorded and live music and part of her practice is working
with improvisational solo-bassist Steve Lawson on a live art project.
He plays, she draws what he plays then what she draws influences what he plays
which sets up a creative feedback loop between them.   This performative aspect to
her practice blurs the boundary between who is composing the music and who is
doing the drawing.
Sound is often very abstract and music the ultimate abstract art form.
Music has a direct line to our feelings and the dialogue between music and emotion fascinates Poppy. Her abstracts also draw on that direct emotional response we have
to music and sound.
Previous clients have included: The British Museum, The Royal Parks Foundation,
Honda F1 Racing and many happy collectors and private clients.
