Uno dei temi più attuali per chi opera nell’ambito del gioiello contemporaneo di ricerca è quello di porsi il problema dell’efficacia del proprio lavoro, mettersi in discussione, cercare “un sé stesso” che renda unico il proprio lavoro.
Lo scorso anno un gruppo di artisti e designer ha seguito il primo seminario di Charon Kransen in Italia sperimentando come mettere a fuoco il proprio percorso e indagare la propria maturazione professionale.
E’ stata un primo punto di partenza, per concentrarsi sulla ricerca di un equilibrio da mettere in pratica, ognuno nella propria esperienza sul campo, giorno dopo giorno.
Una intera stagione è passata rapidamente, ed ora? Continua il lavoro di tracciatura, con un secondo seminario, che Kransen introduce così:
Non nego che molti questi sono tempi molto duri e nondimeno per gli artisti. Si è spinti a pensare: “e ora che faccio?” ed al solo pensiero si aprono talmente tante possibilità, possibilità alle quali non avreste mai pensato o difficilmente ci avreste pensato in altre condizioni. Tutto ciò ha a che fare con il ripensare, ri-tracciare il vostro “scritto” -, re-writing your script – i vostri sogni, la vostra passione, le vostre scelte, il vostro talento, il vostro messaggio. Chiunque può guadagnare anche solo avendo inventato la carta igienica o le puntine, ma si tratta solo di far soldi, non di fare ciò che volete fare realmente. E se non sapete ciò che volete fare perché siete troppo occupati a fare ciò che gli altri vogliono o si aspettano che voi facciate, non sarete mai liberi ed il vostro talento non fiorirà mai.
Ognuno ha una sua vicenda e storia specifica e molte di queste circostanze ci hanno limitato e magari nemmeno ce ne accorgiamo. Nella nostra testa tutto è molto confuso e spesso non abbiamo individuato la chiarezza del perché facciamo ciò che facciamo, semplicemente perché non conosciamo quali barriere ci trattengono. Forse è proprio questo il momento di rivedere alcune di queste questioni e approfondire e capire realmente perché dobbiamo procedere a cambiamenti.
In questo secondo seminario procederemo anche a un esame critico del lavoro dei partecipanti, indagando come implementare ciò che abbiamo imparato fin qui con il nostro lavoro.
Siamo in grado di comprendere le barriere e ciò che possiamo cambiare nel nostro lavoro, in termini di contenuto che desideriamo riversare nel nostro lavoro. Cosa vogliamo esprimere lì dentro? Se non sviluppiamo strumenti per chiarire questa questione, come possiamo rendere esplicito il nostro lavoro?
Di che parla il nostro lavoro ?
Quale connessione c’è (se c’è) tra il nostro lavoro e ciò che siamo ? possiamo comprendere e stabilire questa connessione?

Charon Kransen é nato in Olanda dove si è formato come jewelry artist, nel suo paese d’origine e in Norvegia, Germania, Israele. E’ stato per molti anni docente all’Università di Utrecht – Art Department – Jewelry and Product Design, all’ Art College di Amersfoort, è stato Presidente della Dutch Jewelry Design Organization e da 27 anni risiede a New York dove dirige la Charon Kransen Arts Gallery, occupandosi di gioiello contemporaneo internazionale. Lì rappresenta circa 125 autori da ogni parte del mondo e negli ultimi 25 anni ha portato il loro lavoro in tutte le maggiori fiere d’arte negli Stati Uniti. Oltre a questa attività, tiene conferenze e seminari in tutto il mondo, rivolti a studenti e professionisti del mondo del gioiello contemporaneo.
Si occupa di distribuire negli US tutti i testi sull’argomento ed è bookshop ufficiale della convention SNAG. Alla Charon Kransen Arts/Books è stato recentemente conferito il premio U.S. Commerce Association (USCA) New York Award 2015, categoria libri.

One of the most current issues for artists working in the field of contemporary jewelry, is the analysis of the effectiveness of their own work, to question themselves, trying to find their own way and to make their work unique.
Last year a group of artists and designers from Italy and abroad already joined Charon Kransen’s seminar focused on investigating their own evolution and professional maturation.
It seemed as everything was just started, a brain-storming that had to be put on balance with the following working experience, day by day.
So what we can expect after one whole season? Here is an introduction by C.Kransen:
I do not deny that for a lot of people times are very hard and also for artists. It forces you to think ” what now ” and that very thought opens up so many possibilities, possibilities you never thought or had to think about before. So much is about re-writing your script, your dreams, your passion, your options, your talent, your message. Everybody can make money, inventing toilet paper or paperclips, but that is all about money, not about doing what you really want to do. And if you don’t know what you want to do, because you are so occupied what others want you to do, or expect you to do, you can never be free and your talent can never blossom.
Everybody has a specific story and history and many of these stories have limited us and we don’t even know. In our heads it is all very murky and often we have not developed the clarity as to why we do what we do, simply because we don’t know what the barriers are within us who keep us small. Maybe this is a time to re-visit some of those issues and go deeper and really understand as to why we have to make changes.
In this second seminar we will also critique the work of the participants, meaning, how do we implement what we learned into our work now.
Do we understand the barriers and what have we been able to change in our work, all in terms of what is it what we want to convey in our work. Convey as in ” what is it what we want to express “.
If we do not develop tools to improve the clarity of this question, how can we ever be clear in our work?
– what is the work really all about ?
– what is ( if there is ) the connection with the work and who you are ? can we understand and establish this connection?

Professor Charon Kransen is a trained jewelry artist, educated in Norway, Germany and Israel. Originally from Holland. For many years he was professor at the University Art Department Jewelry and Product Design in Utrecht and also taught at an Art College in Amersfoort where was running the jewelry and enameling department. This was both in Holland. For a number of years he was president of the Dutch Jewelry Designers Organization. Since about 27 years he is residing in New York where he runs the Charon Kransen Arts Gallery, specializing in international contemporary jewelry. He represents about 125 jewelry artists from all over the world and has shown their work at some of the major art fairs in the USA for the past 25 years. Besides this he lectures worldwide about contemporary jewelry and also teaches seminars all over the world to students and professionals in the field. CKArts is also the official bookshop for SNAG and during SNAG conventions and supplies all texts about contemporary jewellery all over US. Charon Kransen Arts received the 2015 U.S. Commerce Association (USCA) New York Award for Books category.
